Recycling
At KMD’s recycling facility, the equipment which is collected from our customer’s sites is put though our recycling and reuse process. All equipment that is deemed either unfit or not economically viable for resale or re-use is put through the recycling and materials recovery process. The equipment in its current forms and has to be broken down into constituent components by our live de-manufacturing line:
- Scrap ferrous (light iron) metals are separated from equipment, baled and then sent for recovery.
- Aluminium materials are separated from the equipment, baled and send for ALU smelting.
- Plastics are segregated and sent for reprocessing where other products can be made from the waste
- Cables and copper rich materials are separated bulked up into large quantities and then send for reprocessing.
- Magnetic media, storage devices and optical media are processed to meet CESG destruction standards. The media devices are then separated into material based categories and reprocessed.
- Circuit boards are removed and bundled up for precious metal extraction..
- Toner cartridges and ink cartridges are removed and sent for supporting relevant charities inside the UK.
- CRT’s are manually stripped and separated in to material groups, the materials are then separated. The glass and hazardous components are then sent for reprocessing
- Lead acid batteries are separated from Universal Power supplies and sent for reprocessing.
